Zach Smith has spent 19 years in the trade union movement doing the kind of work that doesn’t come with a manual: bargaining, organising, industrial campaigns, health and safety reform, workforce training, procurement policy, and governance inside some of Australia’s most complex member-based organisations. Most recently, that meant serving as National Secretary of the CFMEU, the building and construction sector’s largest union.
